According to ghana news agency:ccording to Ghana News Agency, Rt. Rev. Dr Agbeko made these remarks at the opening of the 12th General Assembly of the EPCG in Ho. He highlighted the Church's historical reliance on biological growth, suggesting a more deliberate approach to retain, nurture, and empower the younger generation to ensure the Church's sustainability. He proposed reforms in worship to create spaces where young people could feel a sense of belonging, develop their talents, and grow in their faith.
Rt. Rev. Dr Agbeko underscored that reformation is a continuous duty to adapt to the times while preserving the essence of the Gospel and Presbyterian roots. He expressed satisfaction with the rise of experiential worship services led by young people across several congregations, citing initiatives like Dela Praiz at Dela Parish in Ho and Kafui at Mount Sinai in Akosombo, among others.
Despite these positive developments, the outgoing Moderator pointed out that the Church faces challenges and must address social, economic, technological, and environmental issues affecting its members, particularly the youth. He noted the younger generation's inquiries about faith, human sexuality, and Christian doctrine, as well as societal struggles with climate change, environmental degradation, and drug abuse.
Rt. Rev. Dr Agbeko voiced concerns about the misuse of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and social media by young people, warning of potential exploitation for destructive purposes. He called for stronger measures from both the state and the Church to counter negative uses of digital platforms and ensure accountability.
He proposed a policy to regulate social media use by Church members in matters related to Church affairs, recognizing the positive influence of social media in spreading the Gospel and promoting behavioral change. He emphasized the need for responsible use of these platforms.
In closing, Rt. Rev. Dr Agbeko encouraged the EPCG to remain open to innovation while ensuring that every reform enhances the Church's mission, preparing it to serve Christ and society effectively across generations.
