Accra: Eni Ghana has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) to explore strategic partnerships aimed at advancing sustainable development initiatives in Ghana. The agreement focuses on mobilizing resources and strengthening partnerships to foster inclusive development within host communities.
According to Ghana News Agency, the LOI outlines areas of cooperation including Education, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), agriculture and value chain development, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Community Health, Nutrition and Food Security, and broader economic diversification initiatives.
Maurizio Pinna, Managing Director of Eni Ghana, stated at the signing ceremony that the LOI represents a commitment to the communities in the company's operational area. He emphasized that partnering with AICS aligns their efforts with the UN 2030 Agenda, aiming to deliver meaningful impacts from vocational training to clean water access. He expressed optimism about the potential achievements of this collaboration for the host communities and beyond.
Eni Ghana highlighted that the collaboration contributes to the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The shared commitment of both parties aims to maximize impact through coordinated initiatives and joint projects. Eni Ghana, present in the country since 2009, engages in offshore hydrocarbon exploration and production activities, reporting equity production of approximately 40,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. The company operates the OCTP project, holding a 44.4% interest, alongside partners Vitol and Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, significantly contributing to the country's gas demand for power generation.
Beyond energy operations, the joint venture's projects encompass training, economic diversification, access to water and sanitation, and improved access to energy. AICS expanded its presence in Ghana in 2021, with its Ouagadougou office assuming technical responsibility, followed by the opening of an office in Accra. Since 2024, Ghana has been designated a priority country for Italian Development Cooperation, with Italy's cooperation framework focusing on Education, Vocational Training and Decent Work, Health, and Agri-food ecosystems.
