Edem Senanu Advocates for Unexplained Wealth Law to Combat Corruption

Accra: Edem Senanu, Co-Chair of the Citizens Movement Against Corruption, is advocating for the implementation of an unexplained wealth law to bolster Ghana's anti-corruption measures. During an appearance on TV3's Keypoints, Senanu emphasized the necessity of such a law to enable authorities to scrutinize assets that are not linked to any known income sources.

According to Ghana Web, Senanu highlighted the importance of having a robust unexplained wealth law that includes a reverse burden of proof, which would simplify the process of handling these cases. He elaborated that with this system, individuals would be obligated to justify the origins of their assets when questioned by investigators, thus enhancing the capability of institutions to address financial misconduct cases that are challenging to prove under current regulations.

Senanu further noted that similar legislative frameworks are in place in other jurisdictions and could be adapted to fit the local context in order to reinforce enforcement efforts.
