Accra: The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has ruled out the need for a load-shedding timetable and assured the public that ongoing intermittent power outages will soon be resolved. Speaking on JoyNews, the General Manager for External Communications at ECG, Dr. Charles Nii Ayiku Ayiku, explained that engineers across the power sector are working together to address the challenges. He noted that the situation involves all key players, including GRIDCO and the Volta River Authority (VRA).
According to Ghana Web, Dr. Ayiku stated, "Our engineers are working assiduously to restore power. In fact, it is not GRIDCO, VRA or ECG alone going through this, but all the players within the sector are going through this and so we are all working together as a sector issue to ensure that this issue will be resolved." He acknowledged the patience of customers and highlighted that there are currently pockets of challenges within the network.
Dr. Ayiku emphasized that it is too early to consider introducing a load-shedding timetable, as efforts are focused on resolving the problem before such a step becomes necessary. He expressed optimism, stating, "It's too early to discuss that. The reason is engineers are working very hard to ensure that even before you think about load shedding, they would have completed the work. Are you getting it? So it's difficult to discuss that. But from the information we've received around 5 a.m. today, everything looks very positive."
He further acknowledged the scale of the challenge but expressed optimism about the progress made so far, noting significant progress in the laying of cables and other technical efforts. "Even though the impact is great, I mean, in terms of an entire substation going down, the control system going down, cables and all, we've had a significant progress of work when it comes to the laying of cables and all of that. So there's positive," he maintained.
