Accra: The National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), in collaboration with stakeholders, has reaffirmed Ghana's commitment to strengthening Early Childhood Development (ECD) as a foundation for human capital growth.
According to Ghana News Agency, at the THRIVE National ECD Stakeholders Meeting in Accra, Dr. Audrey Smock Amoah, the Director-General of NDPC, emphasized that early childhood investment is crucial for Ghana's socio-economic transformation. She highlighted that 17 percent of children under five are stunted, warning that such statistics pose long-term economic risks if unaddressed.
Dr. Amoah mentioned that NDPC is developing a Human Capital Development Strategy, with the THRIVE Ghana initiative providing evidence-based methods to improve ECD outcomes. Mr. Peter Francis Porekuu, Chief Analyst at NDPC, stressed the importance of accessible and harmonized data for effective planning, urging stronger coordination across sectors to enhance monitoring and decision-making.
The meeting reviewed the THRIVE Ghana Research Strategy and explored partnerships to sustain ECD, aligning with Ghana's Coordinated Programme of Economic and Social Development Policies (2025-2029) and the Medium-Term National Development Policy Framework (2026-2029).
