Accra: The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has raised concerns over fraudulent activities involving fake SMS messages sent to unsuspecting individuals, falsely claiming to collect fines on behalf of the Authority.
According to Ghana News Agency, these scammers operate by sending SMS messages containing a link to potential victims. Upon clicking the link, recipients are redirected to a counterfeit platform where they are instructed to pay a supposed DVLA fine. These messages often include false claims of discounts or urgent payment deadlines to create a sense of urgency.
The Management of the DVLA has issued a statement urging the public to ignore such messages, labeling them as fraudulent. It emphasized that the DVLA does not offer any discounts on fines and that any SMS, website, or individual claiming otherwise is a scam. The statement clarified that the only legitimate online payment gateway for DVLA transactions is through the Government of Ghana's official platform, https://www.Ghana.gov.gh, and the DVLA's official website is www.dvla.gov.gh.
Additionally, the statement warned that any other website, shortened link, or unofficial payment method claiming to represent the DVLA should be considered fake. The public is advised to verify all DVLA-related information through its official website, recognized DVLA offices, and approved public communication channels.
The Authority also encouraged individuals who receive suspicious SMS messages to report them to the nearest DVLA office or appropriate law enforcement agency for further investigation. The DVLA reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the public from fraudulent activities and ensuring that all official transactions are conducted through secure and approved channels.
