Accra: The Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, Dr Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings, has pledged to take decisive action to protect Ghana's environment and ensure the sustainable management of the country's natural resources. She emphasized her commitment to serve with integrity, humility, and purpose following her appointment by President John Dramani Mahama.
According to Ghana Web, in a Facebook post shared on August 31, 2026, Dr Agyemang-Rawlings expressed gratitude to President Mahama for the confidence placed in her. She highlighted the significant challenges facing Ghana, such as climate change, environmental degradation, illegal mining, waste management, pollution, and the sustainable use of natural resources.
Dr Agyemang-Rawlings emphasized that courage, innovation, collaboration, and decisive action are required to address these challenges. She stressed the importance of treating Ghana's environment as an inheritance for future generations, not merely a resource for exploitation.
She also pledged to promote science, technology, and innovation as key drivers of national development. Dr Agyemang-Rawlings stated that research must extend beyond academia into practical partnerships involving government, the private sector, civil society, communities, and universities.
Dr Agyemang-Rawlings committed to collaborating with scientists, researchers, innovators, environmentalists, businesses, and communities to protect Ghana's natural resources while unlocking their potential responsibly. She called on Ghanaians to support her efforts with prayers, ideas, and partnership, emphasizing the collective responsibility of building a sustainable and prosperous Ghana.
The minister concluded by affirming her readiness to serve, stating that the mission is about the legacy left for future generations.
