Accra: The National Media Commission (NMC) has appointed Dr Isaac Okpoti Nai, a corporate governance specialist, as the new Managing Director of the New Times Corporation (NTC), publishers of the Ghanaian Times and Spectator newspapers.
According to Ghana News Agency, the appointment, which takes immediate effect, was made in accordance with Article 168 of the 1992 Constitution and Section 2(1)(e) of the National Media Commission Act, 1994 (Act 449). These provisions mandate the Commission to appoint chief executives of state-owned media organisations, in consultation with President John Dramani Mahama.
The announcement was made in a statement signed by Mr George Sarpong, the Executive Secretary of the NMC, and was copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra. Dr Nai brings with him a wealth of experience as an accomplished management executive, academic, and corporate governance specialist, boasting more than 25 years of professional experience in diverse areas including financial management, strategic planning, internal audit, risk management, and organisational development, both in Ghana and the United Kingdom.
Before his current appointment, Dr Nai served as General Manager in charge of Finance and Administration at the State Housing Company Limited. His previous roles include Executive Secretary of the National Housing Loans Scheme and Interim Managing Director of the State Housing Company.
Throughout his career, Dr Nai has held senior management and governance positions with organisations such as the Ghana Integrity Initiative, the Central Region Development Commission, the London Boroughs of Lewisham and Merton, and Ananemantey and Co. His professional background spans donor-funded organisations, local government authorities, financial institutions, and higher education establishments.
Dr Nai holds a Doctor of Business Administration Degree in Financial Management from Anglia Ruskin University in the United Kingdom. Additionally, he earned a Master of Business Administration in Finance and Strategic Management from the University of Hull and a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Oxford Brookes University. He is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana.
The NMC expressed confidence that Dr Nai's extensive leadership experience across both the public and private sectors positions him well to lead the New Times Corporation. His strategic leadership is expected to support efforts to strengthen the Corporation's role in Ghana's media landscape.
