Accra: Former Chief Executive Officer of the Environmental Protection Authority, Dr Henry Kwabena Kokofu, has addressed media personality Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah's critique regarding his decision to run for the Ashanti Regional Chairman position of the New Patriotic Party.
According to Ghana Web, Dr Kokofu expressed his discontent with Afrifa's remarks, suggesting that Afrifa should have taken more time to consider his comments about Kokofu's political goals. In an interview with Angel FM on August 6, 2026, Dr Kokofu responded to Afrifa's claims that he seemed uncertain about his political future and could potentially contest for any available position, including that of an Assembly Member.
Dr Kokofu highlighted his previous experience as an Assembly Member for the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, emphasizing his track record in public service. He stated that holding the position of an Assembly Member is a role undertaken by many and that he does not consider himself above such positions.
Furthermore, Dr Kokofu explained that his political aspirations are motivated by his commitment to supporting former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia's presidential campaign. He expressed his willingness to occupy any position, including that of an Assembly Member, to further Bawumia's chances of becoming President.
The comments from Dr Kokofu were in response to Afrifa's earlier criticisms, where Afrifa questioned Kokofu's political intentions and suggested that he might run for any open position, including an Assembly Member seat, if available.
