Accra: The Minister of Energy, Dr John Jinapor, has inaugurated the newly constituted Board of the VRA Resettlement Trust Fund, emphasizing the importance of focusing on the Trust's foundational mission. During the swearing-in ceremony on February 12, 2026, Dr Jinapor urged the Board to prioritize initiatives aimed at enhancing the living conditions of resettled communities through improvements in public health, education, and sanitation.
According to Ghana Web, Dr Jinapor highlighted the Trust's mission to support communities impacted by VRA projects and encouraged the Board to ensure that the Trust's programs and resources meet the critical needs of these communities. 'The Trust exists to serve the very communities affected by VRA projects,' he noted, emphasizing the importance of addressing the most pressing issues facing these populations.
The newly appointed Board members include Halid Abdul Rauf as Chairman, along with Helen Adjoa Ntoso, Bismark Tetteh Nyarko, Dominic Napare, Joycelyn Tetteh, and Samuel Fletcher. Dr Jinapor expressed his confidence in the Board's capacity to uphold the Trust's mandate and deliver meaningful benefits to the communities.
The VRA Resettlement Trust Fund is committed to enhancing the quality of life for 52 resettlement communities established during the construction of the Akosombo Dam. The Fund undertakes various socio-economic projects, providing essential educational, health, social, and sanitation facilities, as well as reliable drinking water. Additionally, it implements programs to promote livelihoods and economic empowerment.
These 52 communities are located across six regions and twenty districts in Ghana, with the Trust dedicated to meeting their development needs.
