Dormaa: The Paramount Chief of the Dormaa Traditional Area, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr Agyemang Badu II, has made a unique announcement concerning the naming of the first baby boy born in Dormaa on August 7, 2026. The chief declared that the child will be named after Dr Johnson Pandit Asiama, the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, following the Governor's visit to the area on August 6.
According to Ghana Web, the traditional leader expressed his appreciation for the Governor's visit through an address shared on X on August 7, 2026. The naming decision is intended as a mark of respect and recognition for Dr Asiama's contributions. "What I intend to do in his honour is that any resident who delivers a baby boy after midnight, as tradition demands, we will record it, and the child born tomorrow will be named after him. We are doing this because we deeply appreciate his work," Dormaahene stated.
The chief clarified that although the child will bear the Governor's name, it will not be Dr Asiama's responsibility to care for him. The residents of Dormaa will assume the responsibility of nurturing the child until he grows up and is able to take care of himself. This gesture not only serves to welcome the Governor but also stands as a lasting reminder of his visit. "This will also serve as a reminder of his visit. Once the child is named after him, it will not be his responsibility to care for the child. Rather, we, the people of Dormaa, will take care of that child until he grows up and is able to fend for himself. This gesture is our way of welcoming him and expressing gratitude for his presence," Dormaahene added.
