Accra: Madam Dorcas Afo-Toffey, the Member of Parliament for Jomoro Constituency, has called upon Muslims to dedicate their prayers to peace, love, and unity in conflict-ridden regions around the world, with a particular focus on Iran and Dubai, during the holy month of Ramadan.
According to Ghana News Agency, Madam Afo-Toffey, who also serves as the Deputy Minister of Transport, made this appeal while distributing assorted food and beverages to the Muslim community at Tikobo No 1 in her constituency. The donations included 100 boxes of tea bags, 100 bags of sugar (50kg each), 100 packs of milk, and 15 boxes of Milo, aimed at supporting the community through Ramadan.
The MP pledged to further contribute bags of rice at the conclusion of Ramadan as well as 100 bags of cement, following requests from the Muslim community last year to complete ongoing projects at their central mosque. She emphasized the importance of peace in neighboring countries and globally for Ghana's security and urged the community to intensify their prayers in this regard.
Madam Afo-Toffey expressed her gratitude to the Muslim community for their support during the 2024 general elections and reaffirmed the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government's commitment to supporting them. Mr. Benedict Boadi, the Municipal Chief Executive for Jomoro, praised the MP for her unwavering support for the Muslim community, highlighting the government's respect for the Islamic faith.
Mr. Emmanuel Benle, the Jomoro NDC Constituency Secretary, encouraged the Muslim community to recognize the MP's consistent appreciation and support, urging them to remain steadfast and committed to their faith throughout Ramadan. Sheikh Alhaji Seifu Jallo, the Municipal Chief Imam, who received the donations on behalf of the community, expressed gratitude to Madam Afo-Toffey for acknowledging the significance of Ramadan.
