Accra: The Deputy Central Regional Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Abeiku Essien, has declared his intention to contest for the position of Central Regional Youth Organizer ahead of the party's internal elections.
According to Ghana Web, Abeiku Essien emphasized the pivotal role that young people play in shaping the electoral outcomes of political parties, citing the NDC's victory in the 2024 general election as evidence. He stressed that the party's success in the upcoming 2028 elections would largely depend on the active participation and dedication of the youth. Essien believes that the NDC needs leaders who resonate with the aspirations of young people and who can serve with humility, integrity, and courage.
Essien's decision to pursue the position is supported by his extensive experience within the party's youth wing. He has previously served as the TEIN Hostel Coordinator at Takoradi Technical University, Acting Branch Youth Organizer at Gomoa Maim, Constituency Youth Organizer for Gomoa West, and currently as Deputy Central Regional Youth Organizer. These roles have solidified his belief in the power of unity, discipline, and collective purpose within a political movement.
He attributes the success of a united youth front in Gomoa West as a key factor in the NDC's ability to unseat an incumbent Member of Parliament and retain control of the constituency in two consecutive elections. Additionally, he noted that the dedication of young party members across the Central Region was crucial in securing 18 parliamentary seats for the NDC in the region.
Essien articulated his leadership philosophy through three guiding principles: leadership is about moving people forward, leadership is built on integrity, and leadership requires the courage to act. He laid out his vision for the youth wing, which includes strengthening youth structures across the region, empowering Constituency and Branch Youth Organizers, enhancing the influence of the Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN), creating more leadership and skills development opportunities, and ensuring that every young party member has a say in the future trajectory of the NDC.
"I have served at every level. I have listened. I have learned. I have delivered. And, by the grace of God, I am ready to serve our region with renewed energy, unity, and purpose," Essien affirmed.
