Accra: A disturbing video has surfaced showing deep cracks in buildings at the Apenkwa Cluster of Schools, raising safety concerns. The school comprises Presby 1 School, Presby 2 School, and Shiayennoh Basic School.
According to Ghana Web, the video shared by Metro TV on Thursday, April 30, 2026, depicts deep and extensive cracks on the walls of a multi-storey classroom block, with parts of the structure appearing weak. These cracks are believed to have developed over the years and have been compounded by recent rainfall, potentially impacting the building's stability. Despite the visible damage, students continue their usual lessons in the classrooms, prompting fears of a possible disaster if immediate action is not taken to assess and repair the structure.
There has been no official response from authorities regarding the condition of the buildings or the safety of students and staff. This issue has garnered public attention following a recent building collapse at the Accra New Town Experimental School. The 14-year-old three-storey building at the Accra New Town Experimental School collapsed on Sunday, March 29, 2026, after heavy rainfall. Reports indicate that the structure had previously been declared unfit for use by the assembly and was marked for demolition.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) confirmed that 23 people were trapped in the rubble, comprising 15 females and 8 males, including three minors. Rescue teams from the GNFS and other agencies managed to save 20 victims, who were taken to health facilities for treatment, while unfortunately, 3 people perished.
