Accra: Black Stars midfielder Daniel Kofi Kyereh has expressed his ambition to be part of Ghana's squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Recovering from a nearly three-year hiatus due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury, Kyereh recently made his return to the field with Freiburg's U23 team. He views making the World Cup squad as a significant goal.
According to Ghana Web, the 30-year-old, who was part of Ghana's squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, is eager to participate in the upcoming tournament in North America. In an interview with Joy Sports, Kyereh affirmed his aspirations, stating, "Yes, I do. That is another dream and goal I am striving for. I believe in it."
Kyereh acknowledged the work ahead of him, emphasizing the need for self-honesty as he prepares to regain peak physical condition. "I need to be honest with myself, but until then, I have some weeks or months to work on getting in the best shape I can be," he explained.
The midfielder's strategy involves playing full matches ahead of the World Cup to ensure he is in optimal form. "My aim is that before the World Cup, I can have one or two games where I can play the full minutes available. I believe I can do it and get in shape for the World Cup," he said.
Despite his determination, Kyereh acknowledged that the final decision regarding his inclusion in the squad lies with the selectors. "At the end of the day, I am not the one who decides. I can just do what I can and leave the rest to the decisionmakers," he concluded.
