Sogakope: The Daniel Dagba-led Akatsi South Municipal Assembly has achieved a legal triumph as the Sogakope High Court has ordered the release of an official Assembly vehicle. The vehicle had been under court seizure since 2022 due to a protracted land compensation dispute.
According to Ghana Web, the vehicle was initially confiscated under a writ of fieri facias after the former Akatsi South District Assembly failed to comply with a court judgment in favor of the Anakpa family of Yaluvi. The family had pursued legal action over compensation related to land acquired for the construction of the District Assembly offices and the District Chief Executive's residence.
Court documents reveal that the conflict originated from a land transfer to the Assembly in 1990. After years of unfruitful attempts to secure compensation, the Anakpa family initiated legal proceedings in 2018. The court ruled against the Assembly, and due to its inability to settle the debt, ordered the seizure of an official Toyota Hilux pickup.
Upon taking office, Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Daniel Dagba took steps to reclaim the Assembly's seized assets. He directed a series of investigations through the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) to confirm the ownership of the affected vehicles.
The investigations verified that some of the impounded vehicles, including those with registration numbers GR 8864-18 and GR 8502-19, were officially registered under the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, confirming them as government assets.
Based on these findings, the Regional State Attorney, representing the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, submitted a motion to the Sogakope High Court on 17 June 2025, requesting the release of the vehicles to the Akatsi South Municipal Assembly.
The court approved the request and ordered the immediate release of the impounded vehicles.
This decision has been positively received by residents, who commend Hon. Daniel Dagba for his lawful and strategic approach to reclaiming public assets and enhancing the Assembly's functionality.
With the vehicles set to be reintegrated into the Assembly, the municipal chief executive anticipates improvements in project oversight, revenue collection, monitoring, and service provision throughout the municipality.
