Accra: The Majority Chief Whip, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has raised concerns over the performance of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) in Ghana, questioning its prosecutorial effectiveness amidst substantial state investment. Speaking on JoyNews' PM Express, Dafeamekpor highlighted that despite the procurement of bulletproof vehicles for OSP officials, the office's prosecutorial output remains low.
According to Ghana Web, Dafeamekpor emphasized that Parliament approved these bulletproof vehicles due to the sensitive nature of the OSP's work, but he criticized the office for not delivering results commensurate with the resources provided. He pointed out that several senior officials, including the Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, benefit from these vehicles, yet only a handful of cases are being prosecuted.
Dafeamekpor expressed disappointment that prosecuting merely seven or eight cases does not justify the level of support and protection given by Parliament. He questioned whether the state is getting value for its investment, revealing that the OSP receives an average of S250 million annually.
Despite regular public updates from the OSP indicating numerous ongoing investigations, Dafeamekpor noted that actual prosecutions remain limited. He stressed that the resources allocated to the OSP must result in stronger prosecutorial outcomes and tangible achievements in combating corruption.
