Accra: The Sefwi Wiawso High Court in the Western North Region has placed an injunction on the New Patriotic Party's (NPP's) Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Constituency Executive Election, which was scheduled for Saturday, July 11, 2026.
According to Ghana Web, the injunction was issued to address an interlocutory injunction application filed by seven individuals aspiring for various positions within the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai constituency. The lawsuit names several defendants, including the NPP National Chairman, Director of IT, constituency election committee chairman, Western North Regional Chairman, constituency chairman, as well as the Regional and District Directors of the Electoral Commission in Bibiani.
During the second hearing, presiding judge Justice Oliver Atsu Abada evaluated an affidavit supporting the motion to dismiss the case. This affidavit, filed by Benjamin Armah, argued for striking out the suit on grounds of alleged abuse of the court process and the failure to use the internal party dispute resolution mechanisms.
The court also reviewed an affidavit in opposition submitted by plaintiff Ben Kumi. After considering the arguments from both parties, the court decided against dismissing the suit and granted the 4th Defendant additional time to submit an affidavit opposing the motion for an interlocutory injunction.
The court has scheduled the case to be heard on its merits on Friday, July 17, 2026.
