Accra: An Accra Circuit Court has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Kweku Osei Korankye Asiedu, also known as KOKA, a marketer and communicator for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), after he failed to appear in court. Asiedu faces charges related to threats of death and the publication of false news, allegedly aimed at staff of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
According to Ghana News Agency, Asiedu was summoned to answer allegations that he threatened to kill EOCO staff members. Despite being duly notified, he was absent from the court session, leading Chief Inspector Wisdom Alorwu, the prosecutor, to describe his absence as disrespectful to the court. The court has subsequently adjourned the case to August 25, 2026, and issued a warrant for his arrest.
The prosecution outlined that the charges stem from a video recorded on May 29, 2026, where Asiedu allegedly made threatening statements about EOCO officers, claiming knowledge of their residences and intending harm. Another video surfaced on July 13, 2026, where Asiedu purportedly asserted that a directive from the Presidency had prohibited the provision of food to Dennis Miracles Aboagye, who was then under EOCO investigation.
The prosecution emphasized that the latter statement was false and aimed at inciting unrest, misleading the public, and undermining EOCO officials. The circulation of these videos allegedly led to an incident where the Executive Director of EOCO's driver was pursued by approximately 20 unidentified motorcyclists, believed to have hostile intentions.
The prosecution stated that Asiedu's actions created anxiety among EOCO staff members as they continued their official duties. During police investigations, Asiedu reportedly admitted to the offences in his caution statement.
