Accra: The Accra Circuit Court Six has granted bail to a trader, Kwabena Owusu, in the amount of GHC50,000.00 with one surety, following allegations of stabbing a man with a broken bottle.
According to Ghana News Agency, the 36-year-old trader denied the charges of causing harm to Mr. Kwasi Boateng and is scheduled to make his next court appearance on April 16, 2026. The prosecution, led by Police Chief Inspector Belinda Asante, revealed that the incident involved the complainant, Mr. Boateng, who resides in Kasoa, and Owusu, who is reportedly a squatter at the Kantamanto Market.
The prosecution stated that on February 19, 2026, at approximately 1830 hours, Mr. Boateng arrived at the police station with severe lacerations and actively bleeding wounds, claiming that Owusu had attacked him with a broken bottle. Following this, Mr. Boateng was provided with a medical form to seek hospital treatment.
Chief Inspector Asante noted that the accused was subsequently apprehended after Mr. Boateng returned from the hospital with the medical form duly completed. The prosecution informed the court that Owusu, in his caution statement to the police, admitted to committing the offence. Following investigations, Owusu was charged with causing harm, a violation of Section 69 of the Criminal Code, 1960 (Act 29).
