Accra: Members of the Multi-Stakeholder Group of the Sekondi-Takoradi Chapter of Infrastructure Transparency Initiative (CoST) have conducted site visits to various projects undergoing review in the Western Region. The review process covers all 14 districts of the region and aims to assess how procuring entities oversee project execution to ensure they meet the required specifications and serve the intended beneficiaries effectively.
According to Ghana News Agency, Professor Matthew Somiah, the lead reviewer for CoST, visited the Apremdo Catholic School and a mechanized borehole in Tanokrom. During the visit, he commended the contractors for their work on both projects. At Apremdo, a six-unit classroom block with toilet facilities was examined, and Professor Somiah noted the contractor's effort in enlarging the septic tank size to better handle human waste. He remarked on the need for assemblies to reconsider the actual on-ground sizes of such infrastructure.
In Tanokrom, Professor Somiah expressed satisfaction with the water's pH level, which adhered to both Ghanaian and WHO standards. Additionally, he noted that the concrete stand met the required specifications and standards.
Prior to the site visits, MSG members engaged with Mr. Charles Kwabena Opoku, the Coordinating Director of the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly, who assured them of the assembly's support in advancing development within the municipality. The inspection team included Mr. Isaac Aidoo, Manager of CoST; Mr. Aziz Mahmoud, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer; Madam Araba Dennis from the Civil Society Organisation; and Mr. Richard Adjorlolo, a private sector representative.
