Accra: The CEO of the Ghana Shippers Authority (GSA), Professor Ransford Gyampo, has announced that customers will receive refunds after the CMA-CGM shipping line mistakenly imposed a $1,000 "Emergency Conflict Surcharge."
According to Ghana Web, investigations showed that the surcharge was applied before any conflict had erupted in the Middle East. Professor Gyampo clarified in a Facebook post dated March 11, 2026, that CMA-CGM's global invoicing system had automatically applied the surcharge after a global directive to all its agencies to activate the War Clause Surcharge.
The GSA CEO explained that the shipping lines utilize a shared center for generating global invoices, and this center inadvertently automated the disputed surcharge. Professor Gyampo assured that steps are being taken to rectify the error and confirmed that all affected customers will be reimbursed.
"This issue is being addressed, and all affected parties will be reimbursed," he confirmed.
