Accra: An Accra Circuit Court has remanded into police custody a Chinese businessman accused of stealing 440 bundles of T-Shirts worth GHC3-million. Evan Yung, 36, has been charged with stealing and has pleaded not guilty to the accusations brought against him. The alleged theft took place at a warehouse in Fadama, located in the Greater Accra Region, on November 11, 2025.
According to Ghana News Agency, the prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Wisdom Alorwu, informed the court that Yung, a resident of Osu, Accra, was entrusted with the care of the warehouse by the complainant, who is also a Chinese national residing at Osu. It was reported that in May 2025, the complainant had to travel to China to attend to his ailing mother, entrusting Yung with the responsibility of managing the warehouse.
The prosecution revealed that the warehouse, filled with 440 bundles of T-shirts valued at GHC3-million, was left in Yung's care. Upon the complainant's return to Ghana in November 2025, Yung allegedly informed him that the goods had been sold to customers who failed to pay. Despite waiting several weeks for Yung to redeem the sales, the complainant received no payment, prompting him to report the matter to the police.
Following the report, Yung was arrested, and during questioning, he admitted to the offence in his caution statement. The court has since remanded him into police custody as investigations continue.
