Samreboi: Traditional leaders and residents of Samreboi in the Amenfi West Municipality of the Western region have held a press conference demanding immediate government and parliamentary intervention to fix the deplorable road network in the area. Addressing journalists over the weekend, chiefs, queen mothers, and opinion leaders said Samreboi remains one of Ghana's top cocoa-producing communities, with additional contributions through timber, plywood export, and small-scale mining. Yet, they lamented that poor roads continue to choke economic activity and endanger lives.
According to Ghana Web, the chiefs expressed their discontent by highlighting the historical support Amenfi West has given to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) since 1992. Despite three terms of representation by their Member of Parliament, Eric Efful, the community still faces significant challenges in transporting cocoa, timber, and people safely due to inadequate road infrastructure. The leaders emphasized that the current road conditions are not only hampering economic activities but also increasing transport costs and forcing vehicles off the road, especially during the rainy season.
The chiefs also pointed out that the poor state of the roads is causing delays in emergency services and school transportation, further affecting the quality of life for residents. During the press conference, the traditional authorities issued a one-month ultimatum to the government and their MP to deploy contractors and commence work on the critical roads that are essential for the community's development.
Additionally, they called for improvements in infrastructure at the Community Day Senior High School to enhance educational opportunities for the youth. The chiefs warned that if their demands are not met, they would leverage their democratic rights to bring about change, stressing the need for development that aligns with their contributions to Ghana's economic progress.
Amenfi West's status as an NDC stronghold since 1992 underscores the growing frustration among its residents regarding stalled development initiatives. The press conference served as a platform for the community to voice their concerns and demand tangible action from their elected representatives.
