Damongo: The city was alive with cultural vibrancy as Chief of Staff Julius Debrah attended the Yagbon Damba Festival as the Guest of Honour at the grand durbar. The event took place at the forecourt of the Jakpa Palace, attracting traditional rulers, led by the Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, along with political figures, dignitaries, and thousands of attendees from the Savannah Region and beyond.
According to Ghana Web, Julius Debrah, representing President John Dramani Mahama, received a warm welcome characterized by traditional drumming and dancing, reflecting the cultural richness of the Gonja Kingdom. The Yagbon Damba Festival, a significant traditional event for the Gonja people, is celebrated annually to promote unity, social cohesion, and cultural heritage.
During his address, Debrah delivered President Mahama's greetings to the Yagbonwura and the people of Gonjaland, commending the traditional leadership for their role in maintaining peace, unity, and development in the region. He emphasized the government's commitment to inclusive development and the empowerment of traditional institutions as key partners in Ghana's progress.
The Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom expressed gratitude to the Presidency for honoring the festival and highlighted the importance of continued cooperation between the government and traditional authorities to enhance development in the Savannah Region. The festival featured displays of smocks, horse riding, cultural performances, and tributes by divisional chiefs.
