Accra: Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie has declared March 16 to 20, 2026, as Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Week nationwide. The week will be observed under the theme: 'Adoption of Innovation and Technology to enhance access to Justice Delivery through Alternative Dispute Resolution.'
According to Ghana Web, a statement issued by the Judicial Service and signed by Christiana Puorideme, Acting Deputy Director of ADR, highlighted that the week would provide an opportunity to engage the public on the role of ADR within the court system and its significance in seeking justice. The initiative is also designed to allow court users with pending cases the chance to resolve them through ADR during the 'Mass Mediation Exercise.'
The statement noted that 138 courts across the country, including 35 Circuit Courts and 103 District Courts, would participate in the week by dedicating their efforts to settling cases through ADR. Chief Justice Baffoe-Bonnie is scheduled to address the media on Monday, March 16, 2026, at the High Court in Sunyani in the Bono Region, marking the official opening of ADR Week.
The Judicial Service statement encouraged members of the Bar, court users, the media, and the public to fully participate and cooperate to ensure the success of the ADR Week during the Legal Year Term. The Judicial Service has incorporated ADR into its adjudication process under the 'Court Connected ADR' programme.
The initiative aims to make access to justice more accessible, less costly, non-adversarial, speedy, and flexible, especially for the underprivileged and vulnerable.
