Accra: Black Princesses head coach Charles Sampson has praised his players for showing character, belief, and determination in their victory over South Korea at the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup. Ghana bounced back from their disappointing opening defeat to secure a crucial win over South Korea, keeping their hopes of progressing to the next stage of the competition alive.
According to Ghana Web, Sampson, speaking after the match, said the team responded positively to the pressure and demonstrated the mentality needed to get the result. "Today the team really showed up. They showed up with the character that we know they have in the team, the belief they have for themselves and each other. Today they exhibited it exactly how it should be with a lot of enthusiasm and passion. They made up their minds that we're going to take this day, and that's what happened," he stated.
The Black Princesses are now ready for their next challenge, as they prepare for a crucial encounter against France. Sampson emphasized that pressure is an inherent part of competing at the highest level and insisted it would not destabilize his team. "Pressure is part of it. We don't let that destabilise us," Sampson noted.
He further stated that Ghana is now turning their attention to their final group game against France, with confidence that the team can secure the points needed to advance. "We came here with an aim, and we know from long that we have these three countries to play with. Unfortunately, we didn't get the result we wanted in the first. We got now a result that brings us up into the game, so we are approaching the France game to get the points that are needed to go further. That's our aim," he added.
