Accra: Mr Frank Musah Damtarl, a prospective candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) chairmanship in the Sunyani East constituency, has officially withdrawn his candidacy for the position. Mr Damtarl, who previously held the position of Sunyani East Constituency Chairman for the NPP, announced his decision after appearing before the vetting committee.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Damtarl explained that after considering his personal interests and those of his family, he opted to withdraw from the race. He expressed concerns about internal politics within the NPP in Sunyani East, claiming that certain individuals within the party were acting out of self-interest, which he believed was affecting the party's image.
Despite his withdrawal, Mr Damtarl urged party members and supporters to remain focused and committed to the party's interests, particularly in support of the NPP's 2028 Flagbearer, former Vice President Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. He encouraged delegates to carefully consider their choices during the upcoming elections on July 11 and 12, emphasizing the importance of electing leaders who are not driven by selfish motives.
Mr Damtarl concluded by advising delegates to use their votes to dismantle what he described as an 'evil Empire' that has negatively impacted the constituency. He called for a change in leadership to promote unity and integrity within the party.
