Accra: The Ghana cedi has experienced a slight movement against the US dollar, trading at GHS10.87 on the Bank of Ghana's interbank foreign exchange market during the third week of January 2026.
According to Ghana Web, the data released by the central bank on Thursday, January 22, 2026, indicated that the dollar was bought at GHS10.86 and sold at GHS10.87. Other major currencies also saw minor fluctuations, with the euro quoted at GHS12.71 for buying and GHS12.72 for selling, while the pound sterling was traded at GHS14.58 for buying and GHS14.60 for selling.
In contrast, rates at forex bureaus were significantly higher, with the dollar being bought at GHS11.75 and sold at GHS12.10, indicating a much wider margin compared to the Bank of Ghana's narrower spread. The euro traded between GHS13.40 and GHS14.30, and the pound ranged from GHS15.40 to GHS16.30.
These higher rates at forex bureaus reflect a strong demand for foreign currency and limited supply, a trend frequently observed at the start of a new financial year. The Bank of Ghana is expected to continue its interventions in the coming months to manage volatility in the market.
Investors and traders are closely monitoring upcoming monetary policy decisions and external inflows, which could influence the cedi's performance in the near future.
