Accra: The Consolidated Bank Ghana (CBG Ltd) has, as part of impacting the communities in which they operate, donated more than 3,000 pieces of sanitary towels to some selected schools in the Ashanti Region.
According to Ghana News Agency, the beneficiary schools include Patasi D/A JHS in the Amansie Central District, Sepaase M/A Basic School in Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality, and Donuaso M/A Basic School in the Ejisu Municipality. Dr. Naomi Kwetey, Managing Director of CBG Ltd, presented the items to the schools at separate locations, emphasizing that the donation aims to help girls remain in the classroom comfortably during their menstruation periods.
She explained that many girls often miss school during menstruation because their parents cannot afford sanitary products, leading to issues like truancy and school dropouts. Dr. Kwetey highlighted the importance of education for every child, stating that access to sanitary pads enables girls to pursue their dreams and make meaningful contributions to society.
The Managing Director acknowledged that while the lack of access to sanitary towels is a significant issue for girls, CBG Ltd also recognizes other educational needs that affect boys. She urged corporate institutions to support educational assistance and mentorship programs to nurture school children.
Madam Esther Nyame, Headteacher of Patasi D/A JHS, expressed gratitude to the Bank for the donation and called for additional support for needy school children.
