Candlelight Vigil Held in Kumasi for Late Gospel Singer Yaw Sarpong

Kumasi: A candlelight vigil was held in honour of Ghanaian gospel singer Yaw Sarpong, who passed away on January 20, 2026. The vigil took place on February 18, 2026, at Abrepo in Kumasi, with family members and fans gathering to pay their respects to the legendary musician.

According to Ghana Web, videos shared on Instagram captured the emotional scenes at the vigil. The singer's daughter, visibly upset, was comforted by those in attendance. The late musician's wife was also present, receiving condolences and support from mourners.

The event was organised ahead of the one-week observation of Yaw Sarpong's passing and saw attendance from notable figures in the music industry. Gospel artists Great Ampong, Kaakyire Kwame Appiah, and Nicholas Omane Acheampong were among the attendees, showing solidarity with the grieving family.
