Kumasi: The Head of the Kumasi Zonal Office of the Registrar of Companies (ORC), Principal State Attorney Yvonne Adjimah Adjare, has issued a passionate call to entrepreneurs to formalise their operations by registering their businesses, irrespective of size.
According to Ghana Web, Adjare emphasized that the perception of needing a large business to warrant registration is incorrect. She stated, "So long as you want to protect and secure the good future of your business, you need to get it registered."
Speaking during a sensitisation walk across the Kumasi Metropolis, Adjare highlighted that registration is crucial for entrepreneurs to secure a legal identity and protect their business names from being misused by others. The awareness walk, themed 'Building Awareness; Driving Change,' aimed to educate the public on the importance of business formalisation. During the event, Adjare addressed common misconceptions about the difficulty and time consumption associated with registering a business in Ghana.
She disclosed that the Office of the Registrar of Companies has introduced a Premium Office service to expedite the registration process. "We are now able to complete registrations and issue certificates to applicants within 24 hours," she stated.
To ensure a smooth registration process, Adjare outlined key requirements that applicants need, including a valid Ghana Card, a Tax Identification Number (TIN), and a unique business name. She specifically encouraged owners of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), such as hair salons, fashion centres, and artisanal shops, to take advantage of the sensitisation programme and the streamlined registration process.
Adjare noted that gaining legal recognition provides businesses with access to various opportunities, including credit access, government support programmes, and the ability to sign formal contracts, all of which are vital for business growth.
