Varna: Sports Minister Encho Keryazov officially opened the 10th anniversary edition of the Artistic Gymnastics World Cup at the Palace of Culture and Sports. This marks Keryazov's first official sporting event since assuming the position of Minister of Youth and Sports.
According to Ghana News Agency, Keryazov expressed his gratitude to Varna Municipality, the organizers, the Bulgarian Gymnastics Federation, and all supporters of the sport. He emphasized the importance of making sport a national priority and a cause supported by society. Keryazov highlighted that while elite sports bring prestige and pride to the nation, the development of young athletes is crucial for producing future champions. He called for collaboration among institutions, federations, municipalities, and sports clubs.
Keryazov also conveyed his optimism about the World Cup in Varna, stating that he believes it will continue to grow, attracting more athletes and spectators globally. Among those present at the event was Yordan Yovchev, chairman of the tournament's organizing committee and a member of parliament. Yovchev noted the significance of Varna hosting this important competition for the past decade and expressed a desire for increasing support for the sport. He also extended his best wishes to all participants, hoping that Bulgarian gymnasts would win medals and delight the home crowd.
The ceremony was attended by notable figures, including Varna Mayor Blagomir Kotsev, regional governor Atanas Mihov, Bulgarian Gymnastics Federation president Krasimir Dunev, and representatives of the International Gymnastics Federation. Special guests included athletes from the Federation for Adapted Physical Activity, led by president Slav Petkov, who are preparing for the World Championship for athletes with Down syndrome, to be held in Sofia in June.
The opening ceremony featured performances by gymnasts coached by Ivan Tsvetkov, Daniel Aleksiev, and Irena Karcheva. Emiliyan Kostadinov performed on the floor, Ramonola Sikander on rings, and Radena Angelova on the beam. Additionally, dancers from the Varna Ensemble showcased their talent during the ceremony.
