Accra: Ghanaian blogger and media personality Kobby Kyei has called on the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection to support his newly launched initiative, 'Boys Lives Matter', which seeks to address issues affecting boys in Ghana. Speaking during a conversation with Headless YouTuber, aired on August 11, 2026, Kobby Kyei mentioned that there is a need for greater attention to be given to the welfare, education, and development of the boy child.
According to Ghana Web, programmes targeting children often focus more on girls, leaving boys with limited opportunities to receive education on issues that affect them. Kobby Kyei expressed a need for support from the Ministry, highlighting that it has historically been led by women, which may contribute to the imbalance in programmes.
Kobby Kyei argued that the imbalance could leave important issues affecting boys inadequately addressed. He explained that the current system creates a disparity, with more programmes outlined for girls, particularly in areas like hygiene and health education.
He pointed out a gap in education about teenage pregnancy, noting that while girls are often educated on the topic, boys are not given equal attention. He emphasized the importance of educating boys about responsibility, relationships, and sexual health, rather than focusing solely on warning girls.
The media personality believes that collaboration between the Ministry and youth-focused initiatives like 'Boys Lives Matter' could extend their reach to more boys nationwide. He suggested that such partnerships could leverage existing communities and digital platforms to effectively engage young people.
