Accra: The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, widely recognized as Abronye DC, has been released by the Ghana Police Service after his arrest on Monday, April 13, 2026. A video shared by TV3 on Monday evening captured the moment of his release.
According to Ghana Web, Abronye was accompanied by prominent party figures, including the Minority Leader, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin; Deputy Minority Chief Whip, Jerry Ahmed Shaib; and the National Organiser of the party, Henry Nana Boakye (Nana B), among others. His release was facilitated following the execution of a bail bond by Minority Leader Afenyo-Markin, who acknowledged the cooperation from Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, and Director-General of CID, Lydia Donkor.
Multiple reports online indicate that the NPP regional chairman was apprehended by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service. The arrest was due to allegations of offensive conduct conducive to the breach of the peace, false publication, and actions likely to cause fear and panic.
The arrest is also associated with alleged threats made towards a judge at the Adenta Circuit Court, according to sources close to the investigation. Nsem 360 reported on X that 'Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC and Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has been arrested by the CID Headquarters of the Ghana Police Service.'
In September 2025, Abronye was previously detained on charges of offensive conduct conducive to the breach of the peace.
