Sunyani: The Bono Regional Command of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) reported 313 fire outbreaks in 2025, as disclosed by Assistant Divisional Officer Grade One (ADO1) Kwame Adomako Antwi, the Bono Public Relations Officer of the command.
According to Ghana News Agency, ADO1 Adomako detailed that domestic fires were the most frequent, accounting for 133 cases. Additionally, there were 80 bush fires, 32 commercial fires, and 27 vehicle fires. In an interview with the agency in Sunyani, ADO1 Adomako mentioned that the fires resulted in eight injuries and five fatalities.
The command also played a crucial role in rescue operations, saving 15 individuals from road crashes and 23 people from other emergencies. Despite their efforts, six people died from crashes and three from other rescue scenarios. ADO1 Antwi highlighted the poor condition of some fire tenders as a significant operational challenge and called for support to enhance the service's response to emergencies.
To combat the high number of fire outbreaks, the command has established a task force and increased public education efforts. ADO1 Antwi noted that these initiatives have effectively reduced the number of fire incidents, with only 29 outbreaks recorded in January this year compared to 74 cases in 2025.
