Bongo: Mr Charles Bawaduah, the Member of Parliament for Bongo Constituency, has initiated the construction of several development projects in the area.
According to Ghana News Agency, the projects include the construction of three mechanised boreholes at Feo Market, Bongo Senior High School, and Gowrie Senior High Technical School, along with a Community-based Health Planning Services (CHPS) compound at Gorigo-Asaloko community. These efforts aim to address water shortages and improve water supply, healthcare, and education in the district.
Additionally, Mr Bawaduah, who serves on the Parliamentary Select Committee on Water and Sanitation, donated 2,100 mathematical sets to the District Directorate of the Ghana Education Service for distribution to candidates of this year's Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). He highlighted that prioritising water projects was in response to concerns raised by residents during the election campaign period leading to the 2024 general election, identifying potable water as a major priority.
The Assembly is also installing 17 hand pumps in underserved communities, with additional support from an NGO and the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, totaling 32 new water facilities to enhance access to safe drinking water. The CHPS compound at Gorigo-Asaloko is designed to improve healthcare access in deprived areas, with less than half of the 52 CHPS zones in Bongo District currently having functioning facilities. The CHPS compound is expected to be completed in six months, funded by the District Assemblies Common Fund.
In education, Mr Bawaduah announced the completion of a long-abandoned three-unit classroom block at Akulyoo, and the commissioning of a new three-unit classroom block with desks and learning facilities. He reaffirmed his commitment to improving constituents' living conditions, stressing that these projects reflect the community's expressed needs and priorities.
Mr Bawaduah also addressed water distribution challenges in the district and is collaborating with stakeholders to ensure Ghana Water Limited manages the distribution of treated water from Vea Dam to Bongo. Naaso Batur, Headmistress of Gowrie Senior High Technical School, praised the MP for his intervention, noting that the borehole would help alleviate the school's water crisis.
