Awutu senya east: Two security guards assigned to Naa Koryoo Okunor, the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, have been apprehended in connection with a reported armed robbery incident targeting a gold dealer.
According to Ghana Web, the suspects, Justice Kpappo Mingle and Justice Mensah, allegedly wore tactical uniforms that mimicked those of military and police officers during the robbery. These uniforms were reportedly issued to them due to their roles as bodyguards for the MP.
Justice Kpappo Mingle, aged 31, previously worked as a photographer before transitioning to his current role after the National Democratic Congress (NDC) came to power. Justice Mensah was formerly a vulcaniser before becoming a bodyguard. The alleged victim, George Osei Tutu, a gold dealer from Bekwai in the Ashanti Region, was transporting gold valued at GHS165,000 from Denkyie to Fomena when he was intercepted by the suspects.
The incident reportedly involved forcing the victim to take a bush road where they allegedly relieved him of his gold, car keys, and other personal belongings before escaping the scene. The investigation uncovered that the suspects hid in a nearby bush, changed out of their tactical uniforms, and later travelled to Adansi Asokwa, where they stayed at Adom Ara Kwa Guest House before heading to Kasoa.
A crucial error by Justice Mingle, who allegedly left his wallet at the crime scene containing his identification and business cards, facilitated the police investigation. This led to Mingle's arrest at Nyanano, where he reportedly confessed and directed officers to Akweley, resulting in the arrest of his alleged accomplice, Justice Mensah.
Further investigations revealed that the robbery was allegedly facilitated by a tip-off from the victim's excavator driver, Festus, who provided crucial information to the suspects. Justice Mingle and Justice Mensah are now facing trial at the Bekwai Circuit Court for the alleged robbery.
