Accra: Black Stars goalkeeper, Benjamin Asare, has expressed his readiness to face England striker Harry Kane and other top players at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to Ghana Web, the Accra Hearts of Oak goalkeeper is aware of his inexperience at the highest level of football but remains confident in his capabilities, having already guarded the post for the Black Stars in the World Cup qualifiers.
In an interview with 3Sports, Asare addressed external pressure and criticism from fans who question his abilities due to his lack of experience. He stated that public opinions do not affect him and emphasized the inevitability of facing criticism at this level. Asare acknowledged the quality of attackers he might encounter in the tournament but noted that even top-level goalkeepers concede goals against elite strikers.
Asare remarked, "Although by God's grace I've reached this level, some of these players also play against top goalkeepers, who even concede. So how much more me, now making strides thanks to God." He further explained that reaching this stage of his career motivates him, and he aims to establish a strong reputation for himself and contribute significantly to his team's success.
Ghana, under the leadership of coach Carlos Queiroz, is set to begin their World Cup journey against Panama on June 17, followed by matches against England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
