According to Ghana Web, these comparisons stem from reports linking Offei as a potential candidate for the Black Stars head coach role if the Ghana Football Association (GFA) fails to reach an agreement with Carlos Queiroz to continue in the position. Despite public criticism, some fans argue that the former Black Satellites coach deserves a chance, just as Spain entrusted de la Fuente with the senior national team after his success with youth sides, a move that eventually paid off.
Desmond Offei's track record includes a notable achievement at the 2023 African Games, where he guided the Black Satellites to a gold medal in the men's football tournament, thanks to a dramatic 90th-minute winner by Jerry Afriyie in the final at the Accra Sports Stadium. In the 2024 WAFU B U-20 Championship, his team finished as runners-up after a narrow 2-1 defeat to Nigeria in the final, but secured qualification for the 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations. At the 2025 U-20 AFCON in Egypt, Ghana was eliminated in the quarterfinals after a 4-5 penalty shootout loss to hosts Egypt, despite having topped their group unbeaten, conceding just once. Offei's team also clinched bronze at the 2025 WAFU B U-20 Championship by defeating Niger 2-0 in the third-place playoff.
On the other hand, Luis de la Fuente's success at youth levels is significant, having managed the Spain under-19 team to victory at the 2015 UEFA European U-19 Championship in Greece.
