Takoradi: Residents and owners of kiosks, containers, and other temporary structures within the right-of-way along the Takoradi-Cape Coast highway have begun removing them to pave the way for the dualisation project.
According to Ghana News Agency, during its tour of the Tanokrom-Kojokrom section of the road, it was observed that the temporary structures earmarked for demolition had been dismantled, with residents and owners packing up their belongings. Some of them expressed their willingness to cooperate with the contractors on this critical road dualisation project, while others voiced concerns over losing their properties and sources of livelihoods.
Mr. Yaw Antwi, a resident of Effiakuma, remarked that the dualisation project would alleviate traffic congestion along one of the country's major economic routes, and expressed his intent to cooperate with the authorities to ensure its successful completion. He emphasized the importance of improving road infrastructure to attract more investors to the region, acknowledging the pain of losing shops but stressing the need to focus on the broader benefits of the project.
Mr. Ebenezer Kofi Karikari, another resident of Effiakuma, agreed that the road expansion was necessary and pledged to support the efforts to complete the project. Meanwhile, Madam Regina Adubea, a shop owner at Tanokrom, expressed concern about losing her livelihood due to the dualisation project and appealed to authorities for relocation options to continue her economic activities.
On October 21, 2025, President John Dramani Mahama officiated the sod-cutting ceremony to commence work on the Takoradi-Cape Coast N1 highway dualisation project under the government's 'Big Push' agenda. The 73.6-kilometre dual carriageway will include nine interchanges, 10 bridges, 15 footbridges, 20 kilometres of service roads, rest stops, and axle load stations aimed at enhancing safety and traffic flow. The project will be executed in three lots by different contractors and is expected to be completed within 24 months.
