Minsk: President John Dramani Mahama has announced that Ghana has reached an agreement with Belarusian manufacturers of mining equipment to visit Ghana next week. Speaking at the maiden Ghana-Belarus Business Forum in Minsk, Belarus, President Mahama emphasized the strategic economic opportunities available for investors in Ghana.
According to Ghana News Agency, President Mahama highlighted that investors establishing operations in Ghana not only tap into a domestic market of 34 million people but also gain access to the wider African market through the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), which encompasses 1.3 billion people with a combined GDP of US$1.3 trillion. The President underscored the significance of infrastructure in Ghana's development strategy, noting the country's commitment to a US$10 billion five-year Big Push Infrastructure Programme, which focuses on roads, railways, ports, airports, energy, and logistics.
President Mahama stated these infrastructural investments aim to improve connectivity, reduce business costs, and enhance competitiveness. He acknowledged the expertise of Belarusian companies in these sectors, suggesting their potential contribution to Ghana's infrastructural development. Opportunities for collaboration include transport infrastructure, power systems, industrial parks, logistics, road construction, railway development, and renewable energy.
The President assured investors of Ghana's provision of certainty, stability, and market access. He stressed Ghana's strong political credentials, transparent legal and regulatory systems, robust investor protection, and the guarantee of profit repatriation. Additionally, he affirmed Ghana's commitment to protecting investments.
President Mahama further noted Ghana's direct access to a market of over 35 million people, an expanded market of over 400 million, and the African Continental Free Trade Area market of more than 1.4 billion people. He concluded by asserting that for businesses seeking a strategic gateway into Africa, Ghana remains one of the continent's most attractive destinations.
