Be thankful to Nigerians for bringing attention to African music — Wendy Shay to Ghanaian musicians

Wendy Asiamah Addo, better known by her stage name Wendy Shay, an Afrobeats and Afro-pop singer, has chastised her fellow Ghanaian artists for failing to appreciate their counterparts in Nigeria.

For years, some Ghanaian artists, particularly Shatta Wale, have sparred with Nigerian artists such as Wizkid and Burna Boy in what has been interpreted as a battle for superiority.

The award-winning female Ghanaian artist believes the success of African music on the global scene is mostly the result of the creative prowess of Nigerian artists.

In a tweet that has since been widely criticized by most Ghanaians and industry players, including a veteran singer, TiC, the Rufftown Records signee, asks Ghanaian musicians not to be ungrateful but be thankful for the wonderful global exposure extended to them by their Nigerian counterparts.

“Ghanaian Artistes Should thank Nigerian Artistes, For bringing the world’s attention to Africa …through Afrobeats.

“Ghana wake up!” her tweet reads.

I’m sure our readers will definitely have a stand on this, whether she is being factual or just trying to gain sympathy to penetrate the Nigerian market.
