Accra: New Patriotic Party (NPP) national chairmanship aspirant, Awentami Paul Afoko, has emphasized the necessity for a strong and unified party machinery to back the party's 2028 presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, for a successful electoral outcome. Afoko, during a press conference where he officially announced his intention to contest for the party's national chairmanship, underscored the importance of collective party strength over individual effort in achieving electoral victory.
According to Ghana Web, Afoko highlighted that winning national elections hinges on disciplined party structures, motivated grassroots supporters, effective communication, and a parliamentary strategy that addresses each constituency's unique needs. He emphasized, "No Presidential Candidate can win without a united party, a strong organisation, disciplined structures, motivated grassroots and a parliamentary strategy that works constituency by constituency."
Afoko described Dr Bawumia as an important opportunity for both the NPP and Ghana. He stressed that the party must focus on building an organisation that is united, well-resourced, nationally energised, and strategically disciplined to enhance the presidential candidate's chances of success. Furthermore, Afoko cautioned against placing blame on any single individual for the party's defeat in the 2024 general election, noting that electoral outcomes are influenced by various factors such as organisation, communication, economic conditions, grassroots morale, public trust, and parliamentary dynamics.
He urged party members to move away from blame-shifting and instead concentrate on rebuilding the NPP's structures. Afoko expressed confidence that a united and disciplined organisation would provide the necessary foundation to support Dr Bawumia and position the party to reclaim power in 2028.
