Battor: Togbega Patamia Dzekley VII, the Paramount Chief of the Battor Traditional Area, has expressed profound sorrow over the fatal road accident that occurred at Peki on June 1, which claimed the lives of 15 persons, including some residents of Battor.
According to Ghana News Agency, the Paramount Chief, in a statement, described the incident as a heartbreaking tragedy that had plunged the entire Battor Traditional Area into mourning. The statement highlighted that some of the victims were returning from a funeral in Battor to various destinations in the Oti Region, while others were travelling on business engagements when the accident occurred.
Togbega Dzekley, on behalf of the Battor Traditional Council and the People of Battor, extended his deepest condolence to the bereaved families and prayed for the peaceful repose of the souls of the deceased. He also expressed concern for the survivors of the accident who are currently receiving medical treatment and wished them a speedy recovery.
The Paramount Chief noted that the tragedy had left several children and dependents who had lost the care, guidance, and support of their parents and guardians. He, therefore, appealed to the Government, benevolent organisations, corporate institutions, and individuals of goodwill to support the welfare, upkeep, and education of the affected children to help secure their future and ease the burden on their surviving families.
The statement emphasized that the tragedy has created a difficult situation for a number of families, particularly children who now face an uncertain future following the loss of their parents and guardians. Togbega Dzekley urged motorists and all road users to exercise greater caution, discipline, and responsibility on the roads to help prevent similar tragedies.
He called on drivers to observe speed limits, avoid dangerous overtaking, ensure the roadworthiness of their vehicles, and prioritise safety at all times. The Paramount Chief assured the affected families of the support and prayers of the Battor Traditional Council and the entire community during the period of grief.
