Kpandai: Mr Toni J. C. Bakawu, the National Secretary of the Bassare Youth Association (BAYA), has urged Bassare youth nationwide to invest time, knowledge, and resources in learning and preserving their history, culture, and traditional values. He emphasized that understanding the Bassare people's history and cultural heritage is essential for strengthening their identity, fostering unity, and ensuring that cherished traditions are transmitted to future generations.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Bakawu made this call during the inauguration of preparations for the 2026 BAYA National Congress in Kpandai, which attracted youth leaders, community representatives, and other stakeholders. He pointed out the crucial role of the youth in documenting and promoting the cultural heritage of the Bassare people, especially in the face of globalization and changing social trends that influence traditional ways of life.
Mr Bakawu highlighted the importance of taking history and culture seriously and urged the youth to make conscious efforts to learn from their elders. He stressed the significance of preserving and passing on cultural knowledge to future generations. He encouraged Bassare youth to use education, research, community engagement, and modern communication platforms to deepen their knowledge of their heritage and promote it positively.
He noted that the 2026 National Congress provides an important platform for the youth to reflect on their shared history, identify opportunities for development, and strengthen collaboration among Bassares in Ghana and beyond. Mr Bakawu urged the youth to view the Congress not only as a social gathering but also as an opportunity to build networks, exchange ideas, and contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic development of their communities.
Furthermore, Mr Bakawu called on parents, traditional authorities, community leaders, and other stakeholders to support initiatives that enable the younger generation to learn the Bassare language, customs, traditions, and historical experiences.
