Accra: Ghana's High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, has explained that his decision to contest the Ayawaso East National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primary is motivated by a desire to serve his people, rather than personal or material gain. Speaking to the media after filing his nomination, Baba Jamal emphasized his commitment to serving the constituency and urged delegates to evaluate his experience, track record, and capability to deliver development.
According to Ghana Web, Baba Jamal addressed inquiries regarding his decision to leave his diplomatic post in Nigeria to pursue a parliamentary seat. He clarified that his motivation stems from a commitment to service and humanism rather than materialistic pursuits. He expressed that his direct involvement in Parliament would allow him to make a more significant impact on his community and the nation.
Baba Jamal further elaborated that while he respects his current role, he feels a stronger obligation to serve where his efforts are most needed. He contended that answering this call to duty is essential, as he believes his contributions in Parliament would be more beneficial than his diplomatic work in Nigeria.
The former High Commissioner is one of six candidates who have submitted their nominations to contest in the primary, which precedes the March 3 by-election. This by-election was necessitated by the passing of the constituency's Member of Parliament, Mahama Naser Toure.
