Accra: NPP communicator, Awal Mohammed, has expressed concern over the growing admiration for military governments among some Ghanaian youth, attributing this trend to selective information rather than a comprehensive understanding of conditions in those countries.
According to Ghana Web, Mohammed reacted on Joy News to a survey indicating that some Ghanaians would support military rule. He noted that many young people are basing their opinions on carefully curated images and reports from countries like Burkina Faso. Mohammed recounted a conversation with a young Ghanaian who believed Burkina Faso was on track to surpass Ghana under military leadership.
Mohammed challenged this view by highlighting social and economic indicators, emphasizing that the positive narratives about Burkina Faso are selective and that the country faces numerous challenges that might make it an undesirable place to live. He pointed out that Ghana continues to outperform Burkina Faso in key development indices despite any frustrations with democratic governance.
He further argued that the favorable perception of Burkina Faso's military leadership among some youth is a problem of perception that needs to be addressed through civic education. Mohammed stressed the importance of understanding the full picture of governance conditions in other countries to make informed comparisons.
