Atwima nwabiagya north: The Atwima Nwabiagya North District Assembly has commenced the construction of a 24-hour market in Asuofua, located near Barekese in the Ashanti Region. The initiative marks a significant development for the district, as it aims to enhance local commerce and provide comprehensive facilities for traders.
According to Ghana News Agency, the project is valued at GHS7 million and will be financed through the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF). The construction is anticipated to be completed within a timeframe of 24 to 36 months. The market complex will be equipped with a banking hall, storage facilities, a fire station, a clinic, a day-care centre, a police post, and other essential amenities to support trading activities.
During the sod-cutting ceremony, Mr. Mba Zechariah Alenbilla, the District Chief Executive (DCE), extended gratitude to traditional authorities, consultants, and stakeholders for their cooperation and support in initiating the project. He emphasized the importance of the land release, documentation, and technical guidance in selecting the project site, which were critical to the project's successful commencement.
Mr. Alenbilla highlighted that the market would stimulate economic growth, create employment opportunities, and expand trade activities at both rural and urban levels. He stated, "The project is designed to create jobs, promote commerce, and support rural development through improved revenue mobilisation when completed."
The strategic position, accessibility, and security advantages of Asuofua were cited as reasons for its selection as the project's location. Mr. Alenbilla noted that consultants, business partners, traditional authorities, Assembly members, and other stakeholders unanimously endorsed Asuofua as the most suitable site.
He urged residents to continue supporting the initiative to ensure its timely completion and to enable the community to fully benefit from the socio-economic opportunities it would provide. The ceremony garnered the presence of traditional, religious, and political leaders, business owners, opinion leaders, and residents from across the district.
Nana Afrane Boateng, Adiembra Odikro and Chairman of the function, lauded the Government for the initiative, describing it as a crucial intervention that would boost the local economy and improve the livelihoods of traders and farmers. He expressed that the market's location within the community would enhance access to goods and services, significantly boosting economic activity at the grassroots level.
