Nyinahin: The New Patriotic Party (NPP) executive elections in Atwima Mponua constituency, located in the Ashanti region, have been postponed indefinitely due to a court injunction.
According to Ghana News Agency, the postponement occurred after officials from the Electoral Commission, who were set to supervise the event, presented a copy of the court injunction at the Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School, the planned venue for the elections. The injunction, issued by a high court in Kumasi on July 9, 2026, halted the elections scheduled for July 12, 2026.
Mr. Justice Nkrumah Boateng, the constituency Research and Elections Director for the NPP, explained that the elections committee would delay proceedings for 10 days, pending the court's final decision. The injunction was sought by five delegates from Mpasatia Atenansu, Ahenbronum, and Bedabour electoral areas, who claimed they were unjustly prevented from participating in polling station elections on May 12 and 17, 2026.
The court has also mandated that Baffour Awuah, Bright Oduro, Kingsley Ofori, Ama Agyeiwaa, Adamu Muntaro, and others who were allegedly barred from the polling station elections be given the opportunity to contest. Mr. Boateng emphasized the importance of adhering to the court's directive and expressed his commitment to compliance with the legal process.
He assured those involved that a new date for the elections would be announced following the resolution of the legal issues and called for calm and patience from all parties to ensure a peaceful resolution and further arrangements.
